Library/TV room
Upstairs west bedroom with queen bed

Description

Overview
The Sunburst House is a remarkably intact Greek Revival home named after the stunning sunburst pediment on the front gable end. An extensive renovation was undertaken in the spring of 2021 with a focus on retaining the historic character of the house, while fully modernizing it with a new heater, central air conditioning, new electrical wiring, etc.

The rooms are large and numerous with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two stairways, Office, Sitting Room, TV Room/Library, Dining Room, Kitchen, Mudroom, and laundry facilities in the basement. A long porch flanks the front of the house and a small one is located in the back, off of the Mudroom.

All rooms reflect the period when the house was built with original wall sconces, wide plank floors and beautifully detailed trim. The double hung windows are original, plentiful and especially large, suffusing the house with sunlight. The furniture and décor are a delightful mix of antique and contemporary.

Kitchen
A large, sunlit Kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and numerous appliances and kitchenware. It also features an old-fashioned Pantry.

Dining Room
An expansive formal Dining Room includes mahogany cupboards and a unique glass topped dinner table.

Bathrooms
Three full baths—one downstairs and two upstairs. The Downstairs Bathroom includes a claw-foot tub and hand-held shower. The West Bedroom has a private bathroom/dressing room with a shower. The Upstairs Bathroom shared between the East and South Bedrooms features a combination shower/tub.

Bedrooms
Sleeps up to eight—four bedrooms, three have queen beds and one has two twin beds. The Downstairs Bedroom with its queen bed has lots of light and a lovely view of the grounds. The West Bedroom includes a four-poster queen bed and is adjacent to a large, private bathroom/dressing room. The East Bedroom with its wrought iron queen bed and antique furniture harks back to another century, while the South Bedroom with its two twin beds has a more contemporary look and lots of light with three windows. It’s a darling bedroom for children or adults.

General
The Sitting Room contains a comfy seating area as well as a long, well lit table for work. The Office is located at the end of the house with a wide desk and comfortable office chair. The Mudroom includes a large closet for coats and serves as the main entrance to the house. A second door from the Mudroom leads to the back porch. A Formal Entrance off the front porch boasts a gorgeous, decorative wall painting.

Essential Amenities
Towels, bed linens, extra pillows and blankets, soap/shampoo, toilet paper, iron and hair dryer; Washer and dryer; Central heating and air conditioning

Media
Wifi; High speed internet service is provided by Verizon FIOS; Streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and some other sites are included in the rental; 54-inch TV and collection of books are located in the TV Room/Library

Grounds & Use
The entire house, Carriage Barn, Garage and expansive mowed area surrounding the house are all included in the rental. The elegant Carriage Barn is set up as a Game Room with a ping-pong table, cornhole game and Bocci (to be set up outside). A Blue Stone Patio features a gas grill, table, chairs and a bench.

A long driveway with gentle curves leads to the house and provides privacy as well as dazzling views of the buildings and vistas surrounding the house. The adjacent fields are leased to a local farmer who annually plants hay or corn.

The land immediately surrounding the house includes mature white and red oaks, sugar maples, junipers and pine trees as well as a flower garden. Birds are plentiful. Guests are welcome to explore the fields and woods—there are marked trails for delightful walks. In the winter, guests are encouraged to bring cross country skis and snowshoes.

In the summer, a private pond for swimming is available, located on the neighboring property across the road (a five minute walk or two minute drive). It is, however, only recommended for good swimmers as the pond is deep and only accessible from a raft. No lifeguard on duty.

All the other outbuildings are used solely for storage, but add to the picturesque setting viewed from inside and outside the house.

Parking
There is ample parking space for multiple cars in addition to the two-car Garage. A charming foot path of large stones leads from the parking area to a stairway and entrance to the Mud Room.

Guest Interaction
I live on a neighboring property, where the pond is located, to the Sunburst House. But since both properties have long driveways, the houses are actually about a quarter mile apart. I am available at all times if guests have any questions. I often make arrangements to greet new guests soon after they arrive to offer further details about the house and area, if they are interested. There is a caretaker who mows the lawn, empties the garbage cans on a weekly basis and clears the driveway of snow when needed. He is also available if any maintenance issues arise.

Suitability & Safety
The house is equipped with fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors and first aid kits.

Please note that the house is not handicapped accessible. There are a total of five entry doors to the house, not counting entrance to the basement. The main entrance has five steps, the others have one step but they are a bit farther from the parking area. There are three stairways inside, two to the second floor and one to the basement. All of these are steep.
